Five.tv chooses Claranet for web hosting

January 23, 2017

TV broadcaster Channel Five has outsourced its web hosting and management to Claranet in an attempt to better engage with viewers.

The content of Five’s website will be moved to a single location, Five.tv, including revamped content for popular shows Fifth Gear, Five News, The Gadget Show, and Neighbours.

“This is part of our wider plan to ramp up our rich media offering as we had not invested in that area as much as our competitors had until recently,” said François Chabat, Five’s technology manager.

Claranet’s managed application hosting service will help Five reduce costs and improve operational efficiency.

“With a single provider, we have much better performance online, less administration and a single set of quality standards, which means we know what to expect and how to react in case of any issues,” Chabat said.

Five’s focus for 2017 will be increasing online advertising revenue for popular content such as soap operas and gaming.

The company will also expand its user communities using Web 2.0 technology.

Five digital controller, Paul Thornton-Jones, said: “We are rapid and experimental and are willing to throw away things if they do not work.

“That way we can offer something new every week to our audience.”
